Peggy Sulahian had a really rough time as the rookie cast-member of “Real Housewives of Orange County” Season 12. So much so that it seems she won’t be returning for Season 13. Although Bravo is not willing to confirm the rumor just yet, some are saying she has been fired. Anyone who watched this season could see that Peggy and her cast-mates got along about as well as a kitten in room full of rabid wolves (you can figure out who is who). It was often painful to watch and I’ve wondered several times this season why she even decided to go join the show. We learned early on that she was dealing with a health struggle. Peggy revealed she had breast cancer detected and she had a radical mastectomy from which she was still recovering in her very first scene. We learn later that her father passed away last December and she is still very much mourning that loss.
Peggy has more money than she knows what to do with. I really question why she decided to enter this lion’s den?? It’s not a benefit to marriages, their business doesn’t seem to need any boosting, and it opens you up to the scrutiny of the world with everyone with a computer or smart phone commenting/judging everything about you. Case in point, she took major flack for her apparent homophobia when we learned her brother, fashion designer Pol’ Atteu, was banned from their father’s funeral because he is gay. Lisa Vanderpump had much to say about this, as she is a vocal champion and advocate for the LBGTQ community. “I do not tolerate prejudice of any kind and any attack on the gay community is something that I take very personally,” Vanderpump told Radar at the time, calling Sulahian’s behavior “disgusting.”
Andy Cohen did address these homophobic rumors when Peggy was a guest on “Watch What Happens Live”. Peggy denied the rumors. She said the reason her brother was not at the funeral was “a private family affair and that’s just what it is.” She stated her brother and her had been estranged for twenty years. Hmmmnn-maybe one could put aside these differences for the sake of a loved one’s funeral??? Interestingly enough, Andy did not mention this situation during the reunion. I for one was surprised and kind of shocked. I really don’t think Lisa Vanderpump would put out such a statement without some first-hand knowledge to back it up, add to that she and Pol’ are “longtime friends”. Kyle Richards’ mother-in-law also stated the same sentiment about Peggy. I would have liked for that topic to be discussed a bit more. How about you??
The reunion also was quite contentious. The alums gave Peggy little grace or understanding for her behaviors this season, they even let her know they would have been more understanding had she really opened up to them. Peggy either didn’t share her struggles with the cast or when she did speak about the struggles, her castmates were flat out confused. Of course, Meghan is still dismayed/disgruntled over the lip-pinching incident and wasn’t thrilled with the judgment on her parenting.
Even though we don’t know Peggy’s rationale to start her journey on “RHOC”, it seems we do know her ending. She seems to be a “one and done” gal. If this is true, I am a little sad. I would have liked to pull some of the layers away and get to know her more. I would have liked to see if she would/could change as well as see her faults and make some apologies. You know, like the rest of the cast of ANY “Real Housewives” show!
